Job Title

AMS Test Engineer

Role Summary

Join the electrical characterization team responsible for analog/mixed-signal validation of optical transceiver products. The role supports first-silicon bring-up through production readiness and works closely with design, firmware, systems, packaging, test, and manufacturing teams.

Work under the guidance of senior engineers to develop testplans, build lab setups, automate measurements, analyze results across process/voltage/temperature corners, and produce documentation required for qualification and transfer to manufacturing.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting does not state explicit years-of-experience guidance.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include planning and executing electrical characterization, automation, and cross-functional debug for mixed-signal, high-speed optical products.

  • Develop characterization test plans, coverage matrices, procedures, and acceptance criteria for high-speed interfaces, analog front-end blocks, clocking, and control loops.
  • Build, debug, and maintain lab setups using oscilloscopes, BER testers, VNAs, signal generators, power supplies, source meters, thermal equipment, FPGA boards, and custom evaluation hardware.
  • Create and maintain automated test software, scripts, and data-analysis flows to improve measurement repeatability and reporting.
  • Perform measurements across process/voltage/temperature/frequency/power/operating-mode corners; analyze margins and correlate lab results with design and simulation targets.
  • Support bring-up and electrical debug, isolate root causes, and drive closure with cross-functional teams.
  • Produce clear characterization reports, production-readiness summaries, limit recommendations, and technical documentation for qualification and manufacturing transfer.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of characterization methodologies, automation infrastructure, data logging, and AI-enabled productivity workflows.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, tools, and behavioral traits for the role. "Nice-to-have" items are noted where applicable.

  • Strong fundamentals in analog, mixed-signal, and high-speed electrical circuits (e.g., SerDes-style interfaces, clocking, data converters, drivers, TIAs, regulators, control/calibration loops).
  • Hands-on mindset for lab setup development, measurement automation, and hardware/software debugging.
  • Experience with lab instrumentation: oscilloscopes, BER testers, VNAs, signal generators, power supplies, source meters, and thermal control equipment.
  • Programming or scripting skills for automation and data analysis (Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar).
  • FPGA interfacing, embedded control, register access, or digital communication interface experience (highly desirable).
  • Ability to analyze large characterization datasets, extract trends, define limits/trimming ranges, and communicate conclusions in reports and presentations.
  • Comfortable using modern AI-enabled productivity tools responsibly to accelerate coding, documentation, and data analysis.
  • Critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ownership mindset, and ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional engineering environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills for collaboration across design, validation, firmware, systems, test, and manufacturing teams.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required; a Master's degree is a plus. (The posting specifies academic degree expectations from a reputable university.)
