Job Title
AI Systems Software Engineer - Neuromorphic Computing
Role Summary
Develop and validate system-level software for Intel's neuromorphic accelerator products, spanning device interfaces, OS integration, runtimes, simulation environments, and integration with higher-level AI frameworks. Work on a cross-functional team of hardware, software, and solution architects to deliver production-quality, scalable software for physical AI applications.
This position supports a hybrid work model and focuses on productizing neuromorphic technology from low-level enablement up to software abstractions and application integration.
Experience Level
Mid-level β requires substantial industry experience. The role's minimum experience expectations are 5+ years of relevant industry work (see Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities involve building, validating, and optimizing the software stack that enables neuromorphic accelerators.
- Design, implement, and validate device interfaces, OS integration, runtime APIs, and simulation environments for neuromorphic accelerator platforms.
- Diagnose and resolve functional and performance issues across drivers, runtimes, and applications; develop profiling, debugging, benchmarking, and validation tools.
- Collaborate with hardware, architecture, OS, and application teams to enable platform features and recommend hardware/software improvements.
- Contribute to performance analysis, correctness and regression testing, and CI/CD practices for system-level software.
- Support integration with higher-level AI frameworks and application-level workflows.
Requirements
Must-have technical experience and skills to be initially considered; preferred skills are listed separately.
- 5+ years industry experience developing and validating production software for GPUs, AI accelerators, embedded devices, or other hardware platforms, including work across device drivers, runtime systems, APIs, simulation environments, or application frameworks.
- 5+ years production software development in C or C++ and Python, including systems-level or performance-critical software.
- Experience designing, debugging, integrating, and validating software across hardware, operating system, driver, runtime, and application boundaries.
- Proven application of standard software engineering practices: design/code reviews, profiling, benchmarking, regression testing, build/toolchain discipline, and CI/CD.
- Experience developing profiling, debugging, tracing, or performance-analysis tools and workflows.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience developing Linux device drivers, hardware abstraction layers, or low-level runtime libraries for accelerators.
- Familiarity with LLVM, oneAPI, OpenCL, SYCL, CUDA, or similar low-level accelerator programming technologies.
- Experience with hardware/software co-design, simulator development, or performance modeling.
- Experience with robotics, edge AI, real-time systems, or frameworks such as ROS 2.
- Experience with AI/deep learning frameworks and runtimes (PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, ONNX, OpenVINO, IREE, etc.).
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree (BS) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. Preferred: a postgraduate degree (MS, PhD) in the same or related fields. The posting also allows equivalent practical experience obtained via industry work, internships, classes, or research in lieu of formal degrees.
