AI Systems Security Architect
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
AI Systems Security Architect
Role Summary
Design and drive platform security architectures for AI and datacenter systems across hardware, firmware, and software. The role sits in the Product Security Office and focuses on protecting AI workloads by defining trust boundaries, attestation, secure boot, and related platform controls.
Experience Level
Mid-career / Experienced engineer. The posting requests "multiple years" of platform or product security architecture experience; exact years are not specified.
Responsibilities
Owner of system-scope security architecture and related delivery activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Define and drive platform-wide security architecture across silicon, firmware, and software for AI and datacenter platforms, including trust boundaries.
- Design and operate platform attestation: root of trust, measured boot, reference measurements, and remote verification.
- Perform system-wide threat modeling and security analysis spanning hardware, firmware, and software.
- Design secure debug/test/diagnostic protections and lifecycle/fuse management for production systems.
- Produce system architecture specifications and integrate security findings into design and audits.
- Lead security assessment and audit readiness, close findings into architecture.
- Introduce and apply AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate security analysis, review, and documentation.
Requirements
Core qualifications and constraints. Education credentials are summarized below in the Education Requirements section.
Must-have:
- Proven ownership of platform, system, or product security architecture at system scope.
- Deep knowledge of computer architecture and platform composition (CPU, accelerator, SoC, memory hierarchy, DMA, I/O) and datacenter interconnects (PCIe, CXL) and their security features.
- Experience with confidential computing and trusted execution environments (memory encryption, VM isolation).
- Expertise in root of trust, secure/measured boot, boot-chain transitions, and attestation technologies (DICE, SPDM, TPM/TCG) and reference measurement lifecycle.
- Firmware security experience (runtime integrity, anti-rollback, secure update, recovery) and platform threat modeling/protocol design.
- Applied cryptography knowledge: algorithms, key hierarchies, and key management in hardware/firmware contexts.
- Proficient in C/C++; able to read assembly; practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools in development workflows.
- Experience securing AI/ML workloads at datacenter scale and familiarity with GPU/accelerator virtualization (SR-IOV, SIOV, MIG).
- Experience with secure debug protections (JTAG/scan-chain), fuse and lifecycle state management; awareness of side-channel and fault-injection concerns.
- Authorized to work in the United States; this role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
Nice-to-have:
- Familiarity with supply-chain integrity practices (SBOM, build provenance) and open-source firmware projects (Caliptra, OpenBMC, coreboot, EDK II, openSIL).
- Experience supporting external security audits, red teams, or independent platform assessments; knowledge of hardware security standards and frameworks (TCG, NIST, OCP).
- Awareness of post-quantum cryptography migration for firmware signing and device identity.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
