Job Title

AI Sr. Principal Engineer

Role Summary

Senior technical role to design and ship foundational machine-learning systems that accelerate analog/mixed-signal IC design. The position sits on a cross-disciplinary team of ML researchers, systems engineers, mathematicians, and circuit experts building reproducible, scalable tooling that verifies against physical silicon.

Experience Level

Senior. No specific years-of-experience requirement stated.

Responsibilities

Deliver research and engineering that integrates ML, systems, and physical verification into production-quality tools.

  • Develop representations and learned models for structured engineering artifacts (graphs, netlists, layouts, physical models).
  • Design and implement learning and optimization systems that search large design spaces and converge on physically verified solutions.
  • Build scalable, reproducible data, modeling, and compute infrastructure to support research and product workflows.
  • Create fast learned surrogates to replace slow physical simulation where appropriate.
  • Implement robust, tested software and productionize research prototypes (Python; PyTorch experience is a plus).
  • Enable tooling and agentic layers that assist or automate expert engineering tasks.
  • Collaborate with domain experts to validate models against silicon and iterate on real-world feedback.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and attributes; nice-to-have items noted where applicable.

  • Must-have: Deep expertise in at least one area: machine learning, large-scale systems, applied mathematics/optimization, or analog/mixed-signal design.
  • Must-have: Strong software fundamentals; fluent in Python. Experience turning research into robust, tested code.
  • Must-have: Demonstrated ability to learn deeply in unfamiliar domains (papers, projects, open source, or shipped systems).
  • Must-have: Preference for building durable systems: clean abstractions, reproducibility, and scale.
  • Experience with model compression/quantization, sparse linear algebra, graph methods, or physics-informed ML is relevant.
  • Comfort working in cross-disciplinary teams (researchers, hardware designers, and systems engineers).
  • Requirement: May require eligibility to access export-controlled technology; applicants may be subject to export license review.
  • Nice-to-have: PyTorch experience, background in compilers, distributed systems, or theoretical/mathematical ML that applies to structured physical domains.

Education Requirements

MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent research/industry track record (the posting explicitly allows equivalent practical experience in lieu of degree).

Expected base pay range (USD): 202,900 - 300,260 per year.

Reasonable accommodation: applicants who require a reasonable accommodation during the selection process may contact Marvell HR Helpdesk at TAOps@marvell.com.
