Job Title

AI Software Technical Intern

Role Summary

Technical internship on an AI Software and Hardware Architecture team focused on GPU architecture, performance simulation, and AI-augmented engineering workflows. The role involves developing and validating virtual platform models and integrating generative-AI tooling into simulation and testing pipelines.

This is a 6-month internship based in Santa Clara, CA with a hybrid work model; target start date January 2027.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship - intended for current Master's or Ph.D. students. Student/intern role with no specific years-of-experience requirement beyond academic enrollment.

Responsibilities

Contribute to virtual platform development, AI-assisted tooling, and performance analysis for pre-silicon GPU architecture work.

  • Develop, calibrate, and validate cycle-approximate or cycle-accurate virtual platform models for GPU components (compute engines, memory fabric, caches, interconnects).
  • Implement simulation components in modern C++ and SystemC/TLM frameworks.
  • Port, configure, and run graphics and compute workloads (e.g., PyTorch, SYCL, OpenCL, Vulkan/DirectX) on simulated environments.
  • Integrate AI developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, LLMs) to accelerate development, debugging, and test generation.
  • Prototype and deploy agentic AI workflows for log/trace summarization and error diagnosis.
  • Collect and analyze trace-driven simulation telemetry to identify memory and pipeline bottlenecks.
  • Create automated visualization dashboards and reporting scripts for architecture and design reviews.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and environment familiarity; preferred items listed separately.

  • Must-have: Strong proficiency in C++ (modern C++17/20) and Python.
  • Solid understanding of computer architecture fundamentals (cache hierarchies, coherence, pipelining, vector/SIMD processing).
  • Experience with Linux/Unix, Git, and modern build systems (CMake, Ninja).
  • Familiarity using AI developer tooling or local LLM runtimes to support software engineering tasks.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with GPU compute APIs (CUDA, SYCL, OpenCL), architectural simulators or virtual platforms (gem5, SystemC/TLM, proprietary), software testing frameworks (GoogleTest), and prior work building LLM-assisted developer agents or automation tooling.
  • Knowledge of hardware/software co-design and performance modeling techniques is a plus.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited Master's or Ph.D. program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline (Master's or Ph.D. student status required for the internship).
