AI Research Scientist, Hardware AI Systems
Advanced Micro DevicesJob Title
AI Research Scientist, Hardware AI Systems
Role Summary
Develop machine-learning systems that generalize across hardware design flows, SoC programs, toolchains, and process nodes. Partner with methodology and silicon teams to convert research prototypes into reusable models, benchmarks, and transfer protocols that improve hardware engineering workflows.
Experience Level
Mid-level research scientist (Level - Mid-Career). Specific years of experience not specified; role expects a proven research track record.
Responsibilities
Deliver research, tooling, and benchmarks that enable generalization and efficient tool use across hardware programs.
- Research transfer and multi-task learning for agents across IP blocks, tools, and program generations.
- Develop metareasoning policies to budget expensive EDA steps, select abstractions, and recover from tool or data failures.
- Build cross-program benchmarks and datasets to expose generalization gaps and track progress.
- Collaborate with RL scientists on reward shaping and credit assignment for slow or heterogeneous feedback.
- Partner with methodology and silicon teams to productize models and transfer protocols.
- Publish at top venues where appropriate and maintain internal technical standards for generalization claims backed by evidence.
Requirements
Must-have research skills and practical experience to conduct reproducible ML work in hardware engineering contexts.
- Proven research experience in machine learning with emphasis on transfer learning, meta-learning, intelligent agents, or long-horizon reinforcement learning.
- Experience designing and evaluating metareasoning, planning, or policy mechanisms in toolchains or simulators.
- Track record building benchmarks, datasets, and rigorous evaluation protocols.
- Ability to collaborate with domain experts and integrate models into engineering workflows.
- Strong experimental software skills for ML research (modeling, evaluation, and data pipelines).
- Clear technical communication and publication experience.
Nice-to-have:
- Exposure to hardware development (RTL, verification, physical design, or bring-up) or willingness to ramp with embedded experts.
- Experience with Large Language Model tool use, planning, or hierarchical control in real toolchains.
Education Requirements
PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field is strongly preferred.
