AI Platform Security Engineer
Role Summary
Join AMD's Product Security Office to implement and validate platform security for AI systems across hardware, firmware, and software. You will perform security assessments, develop and verify fixes on real systems, and support customer security requirements.
San Diego, CA preferred; open to other AMD US locations for the right candidate. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Hybrid work model.
Experience Level
Mid-level — multiple years of experience in security engineering or platform/firmware/software engineering with a security focus preferred.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities include:
- Implement, configure, and validate platform security features for AI systems on internal test platforms.
- Conduct security assessments of platforms, firmware, and AI systems; document findings and remediation steps.
- Develop, review, apply, and verify security fixes on real hardware.
- Analyze, reproduce, and drive resolution of security issues reported by internal teams, customers, and researchers.
- Support customer security requirements and respond to customer security inquiries and findings.
- Provision and manage keys, certificates, and device identities for secure boot, attestation, and platform bring-up.
- Establish and maintain secure builds and AI test harnesses; develop tooling and automation for repeatable testing and remediation.
- Partner with architecture, firmware, and software teams to design, implement, and verify fixes; apply AI-assisted engineering tooling where useful.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred technical skills and experience.
- Proven security engineering experience working end-to-end on real systems (hardware/firmware/software).
- Experience securing and debugging systems, performing vulnerability analysis and developing remediations.
- Practical experience provisioning and managing keys/certificates/PKI for secure boot and attestation.
- Proficient in C/C++ and at least one scripting language (Python or similar); comfortable in Linux environments.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate fixes across multiple teams and with customers.
- Experience developing automation and tooling to make security testing and remediation efficient and repeatable.
- Nice-to-have: experience securing AI/ML workloads, confidential computing, trusted execution environments, GPU/accelerator platforms, virtualization (SR-IOV, SIOV, MIG), PCIe/CXL security features, supply-chain integrity practices (SBOM, build provenance), open-source firmware (Caliptra, OpenBMC, coreboot, EDK II, openSIL), and participation in external audits or red-team assessments.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
