Job Title

AI/ML Driven ASIC Design and Implementation Automation Expert

Role Summary

Work in Advanced Chip Engineering to research and prototype AI/ML-driven automation for ASIC/SoC design and implementation. The role focuses on improving power, performance, area, and overall quality by developing and piloting AI/ML solutions across IP and SoC teams and collaborating with academic and industry partners.

Base salary range (California): $179,800–$247,200 per year.

Experience Level

Senior β€” 7+ years of experience applying AI/ML techniques to real-world optimization problems.

Responsibilities

Deliver AI/ML solutions and automation that integrate into VLSI CAD and SoC implementation flows. Key responsibilities include:

  • Research and evaluate state-of-the-art AI/ML methods (GenAI, reinforcement learning, graph neural networks, convolutional networks) for VLSI/CAD problems.
  • Develop prototypes and pilot implementations on real IP and SoC designs to measure PPA and quality improvements.
  • Collaborate with architecture, IP, design-implementation, and verification teams, and coordinate with academic partners.
  • Define requirements and interfaces for tools and automation features to be integrated into CAD flows.
  • Analyze results, optimize models for production constraints, and document methods and outcomes.
  • Drive cross-site digital transformation initiatives related to design automation.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience:

  • 7+ years hands-on experience applying AI/ML (LLMs, CNN, RNN, GraphNN) to optimization problems.
  • Proficient in Python and C++ for algorithm and tool development.
  • Strong background in data structures, algorithms, and software development for optimization.
  • Experience with Unix/Linux, revision control (Git, BitBucket), build systems, and software debug tools.
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and effective verbal and written communication.

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with VLSI design and implementation flows: timing analysis, constraints (SDC), CDC, low-power flows (UPF), and layout.
  • Familiarity with HDL (SystemVerilog/Verilog/VHDL), physical design flows, and EDA tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins), logging/monitoring (Splunk), schedulers (LSF), and design revision control (DesignSync).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
