Job Title
AI/ML driven ASIC Design and Implementation Automation Engineer
Role Summary
Develop and prototype AI/ML-driven automation and CAD solutions to improve design quality (power, performance, area) and verification for SoC and IP development at NXP. Work across Architecture, IP, SoC design, verification and implementation teams to evaluate and integrate state-of-the-art AI/ML techniques into production flows.
Experience Level
Mid-level. The posting specifies approximately 5 years of relevant software and engineering experience.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on research, prototyping, evaluation, and piloting of AI/ML techniques applied to VLSI CAD and implementation flows.
- Research and evaluate AI/ML methods (GenAI, reinforcement learning, graph neural networks, convolutional networks) for VLSI design automation.
- Develop prototype software and automation to test and validate selected AI/ML approaches on real designs.
- Collaborate with architecture, IP, SoC design, verification, implementation and design enablement teams across sites.
- Integrate prototypes into existing CAD and implementation flows to improve PPA and verification quality.
- Pilot solutions on advanced-node SoC projects and iterate based on results.
- Work with academic and industry AI/ML communities to transfer research into practical tooling.
Requirements
Minimum technical skills and hands-on experience required for day-to-day work.
- 5 years of experience developing complex software projects.
- Proven programming skills in Python and C++.
- Strong AI/ML expertise and familiarity with relevant libraries and workflows.
- Experience with Unix/Linux development environments and revision control (Git, BitBucket).
- Experience with software development and debug tools; strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience in VLSI CAD methodology and EDA tool development.
- Familiarity with design implementation topics: constraints (SDC, clocks, CDC), static timing analysis, low-power flows (UPF).
- Experience with design revision control (DesignSync/Git), CI/CD tools and infrastructure such as Jenkins, LSF and Splunk.
Education Requirements
BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline. (The posting lists these degrees as the expected academic background.)
