AI Engineer (Computer Vision/Signal Processing)

Role Summary

Join KLA's Reticle And Photomask Inspection Division (RAPID) algorithm group to design and deliver AI solutions for semiconductor inspection systems. The role focuses on developing deep learning and signal-processing blended algorithms for image understanding and defect analysis.

Work with cross-functional teams to produce production-quality models and integrate them into inspection platforms used in customer fabs.

Experience Level

Mid-level engineer. Years-of-experience guidance: typical hires have multiple years of professional experience in machine learning/computer vision; specific minimums depend on degree (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include research, model development, and deployment for image-based inspection systems.

  • Design, train, validate, and deploy deep learning models for image translation, segmentation, anomaly detection, and defect analysis.
  • Abstract practical problems into mathematical formulations and create customized algorithmic solutions combining ML and classical methods.
  • Curate and manage datasets; establish reproducible training, validation, and evaluation pipelines.
  • Deliver production-quality, maintainable code and optimize models for inference throughput (GPU and high-performance compute).
  • Identify and resolve technical bottlenecks, balancing model accuracy and computational complexity.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and field teams to co-optimize algorithms with other subsystems and support deployments at customer sites (occasional international travel).

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience for immediate impact.

  • Significant experience in deep learning for computer vision and image understanding.
  • Proficiency with modern deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and Python.
  • Experience with C++ production software development and object-oriented design.
  • Hands-on experience with dataset curation, training/validation pipelines, and model evaluation.
  • Knowledge of signal processing, numerical optimization, or scientific computing applied to imaging problems.
  • Experience optimizing models for inference performance on GPU or HPC environments.

Nice-to-have:

  • Modeling of imaging systems (electron-beam or optical) and computational geometry.
  • Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing, process control, or inspection systems.

Education Requirements

Degrees accepted: Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum-qualification equivalencies listed: Doctorate with 0 years' related experience; Master's plus ~3 years' related experience; Bachelor's plus ~5 years' related experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered.
