Job Title
AI CPU Design Engineer
Role Summary
Design engineer responsible for microarchitecture and RTL development of AI-enabled RISC-V CPU cores in the MIPS S8200 family. The role owns feature definition, performance/power/area trade-offs, and collaborates with verification and physical design teams to deliver a production CPU IP.
Experience Level
Mid-level β preference for candidates with 6β10 years of relevant CPU/RTL design experience.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include microarchitecture, RTL design, and support for verification and physical implementation.
- Drive microarchitecture and design of critical CPU core blocks.
- Design RISC-V vector CPU core and custom vector extensions.
- Design AI-enabled matrix engine to augment the vector datapath.
- Conduct high-level architectural exploration and translate results into detailed microarchitectural specifications.
- Develop, assess, and refine RTL to meet power, performance, area, and timing targets.
- Support functional verification and contribute to verification strategy.
- Work with CPU modeling and physical design teams on timing, area, reliability, testability, and power trade-offs.
- Comply with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements in all activities.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Hands-on experience with vector processors or GPUs.
- Experience in datapath design for vector and matrix processing (floating-point and integer datatypes).
- Strong knowledge of microprocessor architecture, including one or more of: instruction fetch/decode and branch prediction; instruction scheduling, register renaming, ROB; out-of-order execution; integer and floating-point execution; load/store execution; prefetch; vector datapath; cache and memory subsystems.
- Proficiency in RTL languages: SystemVerilog, Verilog and/or VHDL.
- Experience with simulation and waveform debugging tools.
- Understanding of logic design principles and the timing and power implications of design decisions.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience designing RISC-V, ARM, and/or MIPS CPUs.
- Experience with hardware multithreading, virtualization, and SIMD designs.
- Experience with vector- and matrix-enabled CPUs, preferably RISC-V.
- Knowledge of low-power microarchitecture techniques and high-performance trade-offs.
- Scripting experience (Perl, Python) and SoC-level CPU integration knowledge.
- Familiarity with safety and security microarchitecture concepts.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree required. The posting specifies 6β10 years of work experience. Fields of study were not specified in the source.
