AI Automation Engineer, Staff
QualcommJob Title
AI Automation Engineer, Staff
Role Summary
Design and implement AI-driven tools and agentic workflows to automate and improve RTL front-end design and implementation (RTL→GDS) tasks. Work within Qualcomm's hardware engineering group to integrate AI solutions with existing design tools and engineering flows.
Experience Level
Senior (Staff level). See Education Requirements for the role-specific years-of-experience matrices.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include developing agentic AI tooling and integrating automation into RTL front-end flows.
- Design, implement, and maintain AI-based tools and agents to optimize RTL design, design verification, and front-end flow execution.
- Build agentic workflows using open-source frameworks (e.g., LangChain, CrewAI, LangGraph, or similar).
- Develop automation and scripting that integrates with EDA/design tools and reference flows.
- Write and maintain Python code following best practices for readability, testability, and maintainability.
- Rapidly evaluate and adopt new AI packages, frameworks, and best practices as the ecosystem evolves.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience.
- Strong hands-on Python scripting and automation experience; able to write and review production-quality code.
- Practical familiarity with agentic AI frameworks and tooling (LangChain, CrewAI, LangGraph, or similar).
- Working knowledge of VLSI RTL→GDS flow and common front-end stages (RTL checks, synthesis, STA, CDC, formal, DV, etc.).
- Ability to work independently, iterate quickly, and learn new tools and packages.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience applying LLM-driven techniques to large SystemVerilog codebases.
- Experience designing multi-agent systems (supervisor/worker patterns, tool-calling, memory/context, RAG).
- Experience integrating automation with engineering infrastructure and reference flows.
Education Requirements
Degree and experience options specified by the employer: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field with 6+ years of hardware engineering or related experience; OR Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of related experience; OR PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of related experience. Equivalent practical experience may be considered per the employer's stated alternatives.
