Job Title

AI Algorithm Research Intern – Neuromorphic Computing

Role Summary

Research intern working within Intel's Neuromorphic Computing Lab to develop, implement, and benchmark algorithms for next-generation neuromorphic architectures. The role supports transitioning neuromorphic research into product-ready capabilities for edge computing, signal processing, and autonomous systems.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team on algorithm development, software integration, and publishing technical results.

Experience Level

Entry-level intern. Candidates are expected to be current MSc or PhD students. The posting lists practical experience expectations (see Requirements) including several years of coding and machine-learning work.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include development, evaluation, and documentation of algorithms and software for neuromorphic hardware.

  • Develop and benchmark applications on Intel's next-generation neuromorphic architecture.
  • Implement and maintain code in the neuromorphic SDK; participate in code reviews and documentation.
  • Profile and optimize algorithms for performance and efficiency on edge-targeted neuromorphic systems.
  • Author and publish technical results in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
  • Collaborate with engineers and researchers to integrate algorithms into broader system designs.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, practical experience, language and legal eligibility required to be considered.

  • 3+ years writing clean, efficient, modular Python and C++ code.
  • 2+ years experience with deep learning / machine learning and AI frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
  • 1+ years experience developing AI models for perception, reasoning, or control (examples: YOLO, LLMs, transformer/SSM-based models).
  • 1+ years applying software development best practices (OO design, testing, debugging, version control, code reviews).
  • Intermediate to advanced English proficiency.
  • Unrestricted permanent right to work in Mexico (position is not eligible for employment-based visa/immigration sponsorship).

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with edge AI hardware accelerators or event-based sensors.
  • Experience developing software for robotics or real-time control systems.
  • Experience profiling and benchmarking algorithms and hardware architectures.

Education Requirements

Enrolled in an MSc or PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related technical field.
