AI Algorithm Research Intern – Neuromorphic Computing
Role Summary
Research intern working within Intel's Neuromorphic Computing Lab to develop, implement, and benchmark algorithms for next-generation neuromorphic architectures. The role supports transitioning neuromorphic research into product-ready capabilities for edge computing, signal processing, and autonomous systems.
You will work with a multidisciplinary team on algorithm development, software integration, and publishing technical results.
Experience Level
Entry-level intern. Candidates are expected to be current MSc or PhD students. The posting lists practical experience expectations (see Requirements) including several years of coding and machine-learning work.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include development, evaluation, and documentation of algorithms and software for neuromorphic hardware.
- Develop and benchmark applications on Intel's next-generation neuromorphic architecture.
- Implement and maintain code in the neuromorphic SDK; participate in code reviews and documentation.
- Profile and optimize algorithms for performance and efficiency on edge-targeted neuromorphic systems.
- Author and publish technical results in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
- Collaborate with engineers and researchers to integrate algorithms into broader system designs.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills, practical experience, language and legal eligibility required to be considered.
- 3+ years writing clean, efficient, modular Python and C++ code.
- 2+ years experience with deep learning / machine learning and AI frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
- 1+ years experience developing AI models for perception, reasoning, or control (examples: YOLO, LLMs, transformer/SSM-based models).
- 1+ years applying software development best practices (OO design, testing, debugging, version control, code reviews).
- Intermediate to advanced English proficiency.
- Unrestricted permanent right to work in Mexico (position is not eligible for employment-based visa/immigration sponsorship).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with edge AI hardware accelerators or event-based sensors.
- Experience developing software for robotics or real-time control systems.
- Experience profiling and benchmarking algorithms and hardware architectures.
Education Requirements
Enrolled in an MSc or PhD program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, or a related technical field.
