Advanced Packaging & Integration Co-op Student
Role Summary
Work as a co-op student in the Advanced Packaging and Integration R&D process group on Optical Circuit Switch (OCS) package assembly, integration, and sealing. Contribute to process development, experimental design, and data-driven process improvements in lab and clean-room environments.
This is a multidisciplinary, hands-on role that involves mechanical design, tooling, process control, and collaboration with hermetics, manufacturing, mechanical and software teams.
Experience Level
Entry-level co-op/intern position for 3rd- or 4th-year post-secondary students (co-op). This is a student placement, typically 8 months (Jan–Aug preferred) but up to 16 months may be considered.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include executing experiments, developing tooling, and documenting results.
- Design and carry out DOE-based experiments to study manufacturing process factors.
- Develop and improve tools, jigs, and fixtures to enhance manufacturability.
- Collect, analyze, and report experimental data and process trends.
- Maintain organized records, summaries, and standard documentation of experiments.
- Work safely in R&D labs and clean rooms with industrial machinery after training.
- Present progress and outcomes to stakeholders and incorporate feedback.
- Support process automation, data collection/storage improvements, and R&D analysis tools.
Requirements
Required and preferred technical skills and attributes.
- Must-have: Mechanical design skills with SolidWorks or SolidEdge; experience designing and analyzing mechanical experiments.
- Must-have: Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication/collaboration skills.
- Experience with lean manufacturing techniques and familiarity troubleshooting industrial machinery.
- Nice-to-have: Familiarity with Python, computer vision, or AI.
- Motivated, energetic, and able to work in a multidisciplinary team with guidance.
- Eligible to complete a background check.
Education Requirements
3rd- or 4th-year students enrolled in a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution. Preferred programs: Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering, Engineering Physics; applicants from other engineering or science disciplines will be considered. This is a co-op/student placement.
