Job Title
Advanced FPGA & ASIC Engineer (RTL / Hardware Design)
Role Summary
Contract engineer responsible for RTL design, FPGA and ASIC implementation, verification, and hardware validation for high-performance, mission-critical systems. Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems teams to deliver FPGA prototypes and silicon-ready designs.
Experience Level
Mid-level (experienced engineer). No specific years-of-experience guidance provided.
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and verify FPGA and ASIC solutions.
- Define architecture and capture requirements.
- Perform RTL design and simulation using Verilog/SystemVerilog.
- Execute synthesis, place & route, and timing analysis.
- Support FPGA prototyping and hardware validation of ASIC designs.
- Support system integration, validation, and testing.
- Develop and execute simulation and test plans.
- Evaluate performance, power, and scalability tradeoffs.
- Collaborate across hardware, software, and systems engineering teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of design methodologies and processes.
Requirements
Core requirements and skills. Candidates must meet the must-have items; preferred skills follow.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a DoD Secret clearance.
- Must be local to the U.S. location or willing to relocate at personal expense; role is onsite.
- Hands-on experience in both FPGA and ASIC design across the full development lifecycle.
- Strong RTL design skills in Verilog and SystemVerilog.
- Experience with FPGA development and debugging.
- Familiarity with ASIC design flows: synthesis, timing analysis, validation.
- Experience with tools such as Vivado, QuestaSim, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of digital design, timing analysis, and hardware optimization.
- Experience working in hardware-centric engineering environments.
Preferred / nice-to-have:
- ASIC tapeout or silicon validation experience.
- FPGA prototyping to support ASIC development.
- Experience with high-speed interfaces (SERDES, AXI, SPI, I2C).
- Background in defense, aerospace, or other high-reliability systems.
- Experience with VHDL and embedded systems.
- Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional engineering teams.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field is required; Master's degree preferred. Equivalent practical experience in FPGA/ASIC design is acceptable when demonstrable.
