ABL Memory - Firmware Engineer

Role Summary

Join the Embedded Firmware team to enable and maintain memory firmware (DDR4/DDR5/NVDIMM) across AMD Embedded SoC products and multiple DIMM types. The role focuses on delivering stable firmware releases, implementing new features, and supporting memory-related RAS and performance requirements.

Experience Level

Senior-level role. The posting requests approximately 9–13 years of professional experience with a minimum of 5 years specifically on memory technologies.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include design, implementation, validation, and release of memory firmware features.

  • Design and prototype new memory-related firmware features and enhancements.
  • Investigate and enable memory technologies across DIMM types (UDIMM/SODIMM/RDIMM/LRDIMM/LPDDR).
  • Implement firmware modules and integrate changes into platform builds.
  • Debug and fix defects; perform root-cause analysis.
  • Conduct code and design reviews.
  • Manage firmware integration and release activities.

Requirements

Must-have:

  • Approximately 9–13 years of professional experience; minimum 5 years on relevant memory technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with memory recognition and configuration code.
  • Proficiency with hardware debug tools and low-level debugging.
  • Strong problem-solving, analysis, and debugging skills.
  • Solid understanding of DDR4, DDR5 and NVDIMM behaviors.
  • Familiarity with DIMM types and memory controller (UMC) features such as ECC, SME, SEV, and RAS.

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity with differences in vendor memory implementations and timing variations.
  • Knowledge of platform BIOS/UEFI or Coreboot.
  • Scripting skills for automation and testing.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering (Computer Science or Electronics) is required. A Master's degree in a computer-related field is a plus.
