2027 Undergrad Hardware Design Verification Engineering Intern/Co-Op

Role Summary

Work as a hardware design verification intern/co-op on AMD’s high-end machine intelligence products. You will execute verification test plans, develop and run simulations, debug hardware/software integrations, and support production validation.

This is a full-time intern/co-op role (40 hours/week) with hybrid or onsite work during the assigned co-op/intern term (spring/summer and/or summer/fall dates provided by AMD).

Experience Level

Entry-level intern / co-op. Position is intended for undergraduate students; current enrollment required (see Education Requirements).

Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities during the internship/co-op:

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to define and execute performance verification test plans and simulation cases.
  • Write and maintain scripts for resource tracking and test infrastructure (Perl, Python, shell).
  • Run and validate regression flows (Perl/Python/MySQL/PHP) and improve simulation performance and team workflows.
  • Develop and debug Verilog/SystemVerilog testbenches and models; improve test cases and support root-cause analysis.
  • Build test platforms and perform system-level and production validation testing of integrated hardware/software features.
  • Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters) and low-level software tools to debug technical issues.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, work conditions, and eligibility:

  • Programming/scripting experience with one or more of: C++, Python, C, Perl, Shell, or UVM.
  • Experience with Verilog and SystemVerilog and fundamentals of logic design (FSMs, timing, registers, flops).
  • Good understanding of digital systems and computer organization; system-level hardware/software design and debugging.
  • Comfort working in Linux/Unix and Windows development environments.
  • Hands-on familiarity with lab/test equipment and basic hardware bring-up tasks.
  • Ability to work full time (40 hours/week) for the duration of the assigned co-op/intern term.
  • Not eligible for visa sponsorship for this role; applicants must meet work-authorization requirements.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled in a United States-based university undergraduate Bachelor's program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field. (This posting targets undergraduate interns/co-ops.)
