Role Summary
Internship position within Mission Systems, Multidomain Sensing, Targeting and Survivability (MSTS) Division in Rolling Meadows, IL. The intern will support digital logic and programmable-logic development for navigation, targeting, and self-protection systems.
Experience Level
Entry-level - student internship. No prior professional experience required; role intended for currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students.
Responsibilities
Work under engineer mentorship across the digital design lifecycle. Typical responsibilities include:
- Design and develop digital logic for mission systems.
- Participate in design, simulation, implementation, verification, and system integration of programmable logic/FPGA-based solutions.
- Implement and debug designs in simulation and on hardware.
- Support test verification and production activities for digital electronic equipment.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers to solve design challenges and incorporate feedback.
Requirements
Must-have and preferred qualifications for successful candidates.
- Must-have: Available to work full-time (40 hours/week) for at least 10 weeks during summer 2027.
- Must-have: Able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a prerequisite).
- Nice-to-have / Preferred: Active U.S. Government Secret clearance.
- Nice-to-have / Preferred: Experience or coursework in digital design (VHDL, Verilog, SystemVerilog) and digital logic fundamentals (FSMs, timing, clock domains).
- Nice-to-have / Preferred: Familiarity with FPGA vendor tools (Vivado, Quartus) and the FPGA development workflow (synthesis, implementation, device testing).
- Nice-to-have / Preferred: Programming or scripting experience (Python, MATLAB, C/C++), and ability to write basic testbenches.
- Nice-to-have / Preferred: Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
Education Requirements
Enrolled full-time as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college/university and pursuing a degree (will be enrolled full-time in Fall 2027). Typical majors: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related STEM field. (This position requires U.S. citizenship as a prerequisite for obtaining required security clearances.)
