2027 Engineering Placement Intern
Role Summary
Internship supporting verification, testing, and validation of AMD compute and connectivity products (CPU, GPU, FPGA, PCIe IP). Assigned to engineering teams in Cork to implement test plans, run simulations and regressions, debug hardware/software interactions, and build test platforms.
Experience Level
Entry-level internship for current university students (undergraduate or PhD). No specific years of prior professional experience required.
Responsibilities
Contribute to verification and validation activities across hardware and software stacks.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and execute performance verification test plans, simulation test cases, and models.
- Write and maintain scripts for resource tracking and test automation (Perl, Python, Shell).
- Run and validate regression flows (Perl/Python/MySQL/PHP) and improve test infrastructure.
- Review and recommend tool/process improvements to increase simulation performance and team efficiency.
- Debug and enhance test cases, models, and RTL (Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL) as required.
- Build test platforms and perform system-level testing and production validation of integrated hardware/software functionality.
- Perform low-level hardware/software testing, identify root causes, and document findings.
Requirements
Candidates must be able to work full time onsite in Cork for one of the listed internship terms. Technical skills below are expected or strongly encouraged.
- Available full-time onsite for the full internship term: either Jan 15–Aug 13, 2027 or Jun 1–Aug 27, 2027.
- Practical experience with at least one programming or scripting language (C, C++, Python, Perl, Shell) — preferred.
- Familiarity with HDLs and verification methodologies (Verilog, SystemVerilog, VHDL, UVM) — preferred.
- Experience developing and debugging in Linux/Unix and Windows environments — preferred.
- Knowledge of digital systems, computer organization, and fundamentals of logic design (FSM, timing, registers) — preferred.
- Experience with lab hardware and tools (oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyzer) and basic system assembly/configuration — preferred.
- Ability to debug low-level interactions and run simulation/regression test flows; strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Education Requirements
Currently enrolled at an Ireland-based university in an undergraduate or graduate program (undergraduate or PhD student) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field. Enrollment during the internship term is required.
