Job Title

Yield Development Engineer

Role Summary

Drive yield improvement strategies across technology development and high-volume manufacturing for semiconductor products. Work with cross-functional teams to analyze manufacturing data, identify yield limiters, and implement process or design changes that improve manufacturability and meet yield milestones.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting expects multiple years of relevant semiconductor experience (3+ years of professional experience in the field is typical based on the published minimums).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include analyzing large datasets, debugging process and product yield issues, and converting analysis into actionable process changes.

  • Perform statistical analysis and develop process development roadmaps to meet yield milestones.
  • Aggregate and analyze diverse data sources to identify defect modes and build yield models.
  • Develop multivariate algorithms and apply machine learning techniques for high-volume data analysis.
  • Collaborate with process integration, defect engineering, and electrical fault isolation teams to identify root causes and propose corrective actions.
  • Conduct fault isolation and failure analysis to determine yield-impacting issues.
  • Develop tools and systems that translate manufacturing data into actionable yield improvement strategies.
  • Work with product and design teams to resolve product-related yield problems and improve manufacturability.
  • Support new product introductions and participate in factory task forces to ensure process optimization.

Requirements

Essential technical skills and domain experience required for the role. Preferred items are listed where applicable.

  • Several years of experience in semiconductor processing, device engineering, or nanotechnology with demonstrated yield work.
  • Proficiency in data analysis systems, coding for data analysis, and machine learning techniques for extracting insights from large datasets. (Must-have)
  • Experience with optical probing or metrology techniques. (Must-have)
  • Strong knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Design of Experiments (DOE). (Must-have)
  • Experience with fault isolation and failure analysis tools, electrical testing, and layout studies. (Preferred)
  • Practical experience developing yield models and multivariate algorithms for root-cause identification. (Preferred)
  • Ability to collaborate across matrixed, cross-functional teams and communicate technical results to stakeholders. (Preferred)
  • Experience maintaining or troubleshooting semiconductor equipment and strong project-management skills are advantages. (Preferred)

Education Requirements

Minimum qualifications include: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field plus 4+ years of relevant experience; OR Master's degree in those fields plus 3+ years of relevant experience; OR a PhD in Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field. Fields referenced: Engineering, Physical Sciences, Computer Science, or related technical fields.
