Job Title

Yield and Process Control Automation Engineer

Role Summary

Lead the design, development, and deployment of automation software and system integrations supporting back-end foundry operations (wafer prep, die prep, assembly/test). The role focuses on integrating equipment control, MES, yield management, and SPC systems to optimize throughput, product quality, and operational efficiency.

Member of the Foundry Back-End Automation team; works closely with manufacturing, equipment engineering, IT, process engineering, and quality teams to translate business needs into automation solutions.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 7+ years of relevant industry experience in semiconductor manufacturing automation, systems integration, or related areas.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include architecting and delivering end-to-end automation integrations, troubleshooting system issues, and mentoring technical staff.

  • Architect, develop, and deploy automation solutions across wafer prep, die prep, and assembly/test manufacturing.
  • Integrate factory systems including equipment control, production activity control, MES, yield management, and SPC.
  • Design and implement real-time communication interfaces and protocols for equipment integration.
  • Maintain and improve software architecture to ensure scalability, robustness, and maintainability.
  • Lead root-cause analysis and system-level debugging for complex integration issues.
  • Lead technical discussions, mentor junior engineers, and drive adoption of best practices.
  • Collaborate with yield engineering to automate analytics for scrap reduction, drift detection, and process health monitoring.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred technical skills and experience.

  • Must-have: 7+ years in semiconductor automation, systems integration, or related fields; strong software engineering and systems-integration experience.
  • Must-have: 5+ years with relational database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) and hands-on experience with yield management systems and SPC-driven workflows.
  • Must-have: Experience integrating MES and manufacturing equipment interfaces and working with automated yield/SPC workflows and production data analysis.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with SEMI communication standards (SECS/GEM, EDA/Interface A, GEM300); experience in 300mm manufacturing; MES300 or Workstream experience is a plus.
  • Preferred: Strong debugging and data-analysis skills in production environments and understanding of factory KPIs (OEE, cycle time, throughput, yield).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Equivalent industry experience, internships, or relevant coursework/research may be accepted in place of formal degrees.
