PMTS SILICON DESIGN ENGINEER

Role Summary

A PMTS is a senior technical leader responsible for driving AMD’s technological direction in key domains. The role demands deep technical mastery, crossteam influence, strategic thinking, and the ability to independently own complex, highimpact engineering programs. They operate as experts across project and organizational boundaries, shaping execution, architecture, and longrange technology strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership & Innovation: Establish and maintain AMD’s technological leadership in specialized areas. Solve complex, novel, and nonrecurring technical problems requiring cuttingedge approaches. Champion innovation and drive significant changes to existing methods, processes, or architectures. Influence technical decisions impacting multiple products, product lines, or gotomarket strategies.
  • Project & Program Ownership: Own highimpact technical programs with significant strategic or commercial importance. Drive planning, execution, risk management, and technical alignment across engineering functions. Ensure crossteam interdependency management and technical clarity across large, multiIP efforts.
  • Architecture & Design Leadership: Define crossIP protocol or microarchitecture strategies; influence architectural decisions. Lead verification/validation or design direction across complex subsystems or entire product lines. Institutionalize signoff methodology rigor.
  • Mentorship & Technical Coaching: Coach, mentor, and develop senior technical talent; influence teams without formal authority. Guide engineers in solving the hardest technical challenges. Act as a recognized technical authority across multiple groups.
  • CrossFunctional Influence: Represent AMD’s technical vision to internal/external stakeholders. Act as the key technical interface across architecture, design, DV, PD, FW, systems, and external partners. Communicate complex technical issues and decisions to senior leadership.

Requirements

  • Experience & Education Requirements: 15+ years experience. Prior publications, patents, or contributions to highimpact technical initiatives encouraged.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Deep Technical Expertise: Demonstrated mastery in at least one of: RTL design & microarchitecture, Complex IP verification (DV), DDR5/GDDR/HBM/PCIe/Highspeed protocols, Firmware, architecture, or systemlevel design, Formal verification / methodologies.
  • Strategic Technical Thinking: Ability to define longrange technology direction (6–12 month technical horizon). Strong understanding of cross-IP interactions, system impacts, PPA tradeoffs, and architecture intent.
  • Leadership & Influence: Operates with little or no supervision; outcomedriven. Skilled in negotiation, conflict resolution, and influencing decisions across teams. Highly effective communicator across engineering and executive levels.
