Job Title

WLA Yield Defect Metrology Engineer - Shift 5

Role Summary

Responsible for analyzing manufacturing, process, and defect data to identify yield limiters and drive corrective actions across advanced process and packaging technologies. Works with factory teams, equipment and product engineers to perform fault isolation, develop measurement recipes, and implement process improvements that increase manufacturability and product quality.

Role is part of Yield Development within Intel Foundry; requires on-site presence and operates on a modified Shift 5 (Sun–Wed).

Experience Level

Mid-level (Experienced hire). Typical experience guidance: Bachelor's degree plus 2+ years relevant metrology experience, or Master's degree plus 1+ year relevant metrology experience (see Education Requirements for details).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include data-driven yield improvement, defect analysis, and cross-functional execution.

  • Perform statistical analysis and visualizations to identify yield limiters and support process roadmaps.
  • Analyze structured and unstructured data using statistical methods, machine learning, and coding to extract actionable insights.
  • Organize and interpret fab process, defect, and equipment data to detect anomalies and recommend process changes.
  • Develop tools and multivariate algorithms for high-volume data analysis and accurate yield Pareto construction.
  • Design and execute data-driven experiments in collaboration with factory task forces.
  • Perform fault isolation and failure analysis to determine defect root causes and corrective actions.
  • Improve measurement recipes and metrology methods to provide faster, actionable feedback on product integrity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to debug yield issues and align on corrective plans.
  • Provide training and mentorship to technicians to support operational excellence.
  • Work on a modified Shift 5 schedule (Sun–Wed).

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience (education and degree-specific years are listed under Education Requirements).

  • Relevant metrology, defect reduction, yield analysis, or module engineering experience.
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills; experience applying statistical techniques to yield improvement.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and process modeling.
  • Experience with SQL and familiarity with tools such as JMP/JSL or similar statistical packages.
  • Ability to develop multivariate algorithms and high-volume data analysis tools.
  • Experience in fault isolation, failure analysis, and developing measurement recipes.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and drive corrective actions.
  • Effective communicator and mentor for technicians and cross-functional partners.
  • Other: This position is not eligible for Intel immigration sponsorship.

Education Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or another STEM-related field plus 2+ years of relevant metrology experience; OR Master's degree in the listed fields plus 1+ year of relevant metrology experience.
