Job Title

Engineer II - Standard Cell Library

Role Summary

Develop and maintain standard cell libraries used for digital integrated circuit design. The role works with physical design, characterization, and verification teams to produce reliable, optimized cell libraries for tapeout.

Experience Level

Mid-level (Engineer II). Typically suited to candidates with prior industry experience in standard-cell or digital physical design (approximately 3–7 years, when available).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include technical development and delivery of standard cell libraries and associated artifacts.

  • Design and layout of standard cells and I/O cells to meet timing, area, and power targets.
  • Characterize cells across process, voltage, and temperature corners; generate Liberty timing and power models.
  • Create and maintain LEF/DEF and other library deliverables for place-and-route flows.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and flows for library development and regression.
  • Collaborate with timing, power, physical verification, and silicon validation teams to resolve issues and support bring-up.
  • Ensure cell compliance with foundry PDK rules and physical verification (DRC/LVS) requirements.

Requirements

Concrete technical skills and tools expected.

  • Must-have: Experience with standard cell development or digital physical design; familiarity with Liberty (.lib), LEF/DEF, and characterization flows.
  • Must-have: Proficiency with EDA tools used for layout, characterization, and verification (for example Cadence toolset or equivalent).
  • Must-have: Scripting skills for automation (Python, TCL, or similar).
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience with SPICE/HSPICE, parasitic extraction, timing closure, power optimization, or process-specific PDK knowledge.
  • Nice-to-have: Familiarity with version control and continuous integration for design flows.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
