WiFi MAC Design - Lead Engineer
Role Summary
Lead engineer responsible for high-speed, low-power Wi‑Fi/5G modem hardmacro implementation. Own the post‑RTL to netlist flow, converge on area, timing, power and testability, and mentor junior engineers. Collaborate with RTL, DFT and PD teams across global sites.
Experience Level
Senior role. Typical experience guidance: minimum 3+ years with a Bachelor's degree (or 2+ years with a Master's, or 1+ year with a PhD) in a relevant engineering field as detailed below.
Responsibilities
Technical leadership and hands-on implementation across hardmacro projects:
- Lead, train and mentor a team of junior engineers to deliver complex modem hardmacro designs.
- Drive projects from post‑RTL to netlist release, coordinating with RTL, DFT and PD leads.
- Author timing constraints and perform synthesis, formal verification, and low‑power flows.
- Execute timing signoff and power analysis using tools such as PrimeTime and PTPX; perform Conformal ECO and Conformal Low Power flows.
- Implement UPF-based power intent and ensure correct integration through synthesis and verification.
- Optimize datapath designs for low area, low power and high speed using synthesis features (MCMM, SAIF, multibit mapping) and appropriate standard‑cell libraries and memories.
- Tune tool options and libraries to improve PPA and handle complex digital blocks (>1M gates) in advanced process nodes.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience:
- Strong fundamentals in microarchitecture, computer arithmetic, circuit design and process technology.
- Extensive hands-on experience with synthesis (Design Compiler or Genus) and UPF-based power intent.
- Practical experience with formal verification tools (LEC, Formality) and Conformal Low Power / Conformal ECO flows.
- Experience with timing signoff and power/timing tools such as PrimeTime and PTPX.
- Proven ability to optimize datapath designs for low area, low power and high speed.
- Strong communication skills for global collaboration and mentoring.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience implementing 5G/WLAN modem hardmacros and working in advanced process nodes (4nm/5nm/7nm/8nm).
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering or a related field (plus 3+ years relevant hardware engineering experience), or Master's degree in those fields (plus 2+ years), or PhD in those fields (plus 1+ year). Equivalent practical experience may be acceptable.
