Job Title

Wafer Fab Yield Process Engineer

Role Summary

The Senior wafer-fab yield engineer drives systematic yield improvement for semiconductor wafer fabrication by analyzing process, metrology, defect, and electrical test data and leading corrective actions.

This role partners with Process, Equipment, Integration, Test, Failure Analysis, Quality, and Manufacturing to reduce variability, resolve complex yield failures, and accelerate product ramps.

Experience Level

Senior-level. The role requires significant hands-on experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication, data-driven root-cause analysis, and leading cross-functional technical investigations. No explicit years of experience were listed.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead wafer-fab yield-improvement initiatives and prioritize major yield-loss mechanisms into actionable projects.
  • Analyze wafer probe maps, electrical-test/bin data, inline metrology, defect inspection, equipment/process history, and lot genealogy to isolate yield loss sources.
  • Perform correlation, regression, statistical analysis, wafer spatial analysis, trend analysis, and other data-mining techniques.
  • Lead root-cause investigations of process excursions, recurring yield degradation, equipment effects, materials, and process interactions.
  • Partner with Process and Equipment Engineering to convert yield signatures into physical hypotheses and validate corrective actions.
  • Design and execute structured experiments and DOE to validate yield drivers and optimize process windows.
  • Use SPC and process-capability analysis to identify variation and improve manufacturing control.
  • Work with Failure Analysis to develop analysis plans and translate findings into manufacturing actions.
  • Prepare analyses and reports that communicate yield trends, root causes, improvement opportunities, and project status.
  • Support new-product/technology introduction by identifying yield risks, establishing baselines, and accelerating ramp learning.
  • Mentor less-experienced engineers and improve fab-wide yield-analysis methods and data practices.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and background:

  • Significant engineering experience in semiconductor wafer fabrication (yield, process integration, process or product engineering, device engineering, or failure analysis).
  • Strong understanding of wafer fabrication processes and how process variation, defects, and materials affect electrical yield.
  • Proven ability to perform statistical analysis and solve complex manufacturing problems using large manufacturing datasets.
  • Experience with statistical/data-analysis tools such as JMP or comparable platforms.
  • Working knowledge of SPC, DOE, process capability, correlation/regression, hypothesis testing, and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical conclusions clearly to engineering and manufacturing audiences and to lead cross-functional problem solving.
  • Experience correlating WAT/wafer-sort/inline process-monitoring/defect data to identify yield opportunities.
  • Must meet applicable U.S. person requirements for ITAR access (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual) due to access restrictions.

Nice-to-have / preferred:

  • Experience with wafer-map and spatial-pattern analysis and defect inspection or physical failure analysis.
  • Experience creating automated yield-analysis or data-mining tools.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and electrical test structures.
  • Experience supporting technology or product ramps in high-volume wafer fabrication.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical discipline is required. A Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is preferred. (Equivalent practical experience in these technical areas was not explicitly stated.)
