Job Title

VLSI Timing Methodology Intern - Summer 2027

Role Summary

Join a VLSI CAD and silicon-projection team that develops high-performance tools and methodologies to predict and improve silicon timing, performance, and reliability. Projects combine device modeling, static timing analysis, software development, and machine learning to advance pre-silicon timing methodologies.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (student intern).

Responsibilities

Work on research and engineering tasks to model and analyze timing behavior and to develop related tools and methodologies.

  • Research and develop compact device and system models to predict time-zero and aged silicon timing.
  • Apply machine learning and analytical techniques to accelerate device and system timing characterization.
  • Develop tools and methodologies to predict and improve silicon performance and reliability beyond standard industry tools.
  • Analyze the impact of physical effects (IR drop, crosstalk, aging, thermal effects) on timing and design decisions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience.

  • Knowledge of digital circuit design, MOSFET device physics, and static timing analysis (STA).
  • Experience with VLSI backend design workflows.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and statistics for modeling or characterization tasks.
  • Experience scripting in Python, Perl, or Tcl.
  • Strong analytical and software development skills for tool and methodology implementation.

Nice-to-have:

  • Prior VLSI work experience or related internships.
  • Familiarity with BSIM or other device compact models.
  • Coursework or projects in VLSI design or CAD.

Education Requirements

Currently enrolled and pursuing a Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
