VLSI Physical Design Engineer

Role Summary

Work in the VLSI group to develop and tape out AI processors for edge devices. The role covers backend physical-design activities and the development of BE flows and automation to support production-quality tapeouts.

Position is listed for Springfield, IL; the VLSI team operates with engineering groups in Tel Aviv.

Experience Level

Mid-level β€” 3+ years of experience as a VLSI physical design engineer.

Responsibilities

Contribute to all phases of backend physical design and delivery for production chips.

  • Perform synthesis, implementation (place & route), timing closure and signoff activities.
  • Develop and maintain backend (BE) flows, automation and scripts.
  • Execute RTL-to-GDS flows and signoff verification flows.
  • Optimize power, performance and area (PPA) and perform STA tuning.
  • Collaborate with RTL, architecture, CAD and verification teams to support tapeout schedules.

Requirements

Key technical must-haves and useful additions.

  • Must-have: 3+ years as a VLSI physical design engineer; hands-on experience with CAD tools, RTL-to-GDS and signoff flows; experience with advanced process nodes; strong knowledge of synthesis, implementation, STA and PPA optimization methods.
  • Nice-to-have: experience developing BE flows and scripting; low-power design experience.

Education Requirements

B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related technical field from a recognized university (explicitly listed as B.Sc./M.Sc. EE or CE in the posting).
