VLSI Engineer Intern

Role Summary

Intern role on an ASIC/VLSI engineering team working across system integration, circuit design, and verification. The position focuses on ASIC verification tasks including test plan development, testbench creation, regressions, and bug triage.

This role is hybrid with an expected average of 2 days per week in an HPE office (Spring, TX).

Experience Level

Internship / Entry-level - intended for current undergraduate students. Prior professional experience is not required.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include verifying design functionality and supporting verification flows:

• Analyze specifications to understand the design.
• Collaborate with architecture and RTL designers to verify functional correctness.
• Develop test cases and test plans.
• Implement testbenches and generate directed and constrained-random tests.
• Run and triage regression suites and track bugs.
• Assist with verification automation, scripts, and regression infrastructure.
• Communicate status and issues to engineering leads and managers.

Technical skills and attributes expected for successful candidates.

• Must-have: Understanding of VLSI fundamentals, digital logic, and computer architecture.
• Must-have: Object-oriented programming fundamentals; ability to script or code. (Python is a plus.)
• Must-have: Familiarity with hardware description languages (Verilog or VHDL) and basic use of EDA/FPGA tools.
• Experience or coursework with testbench development and verification methodologies.
• Experience running regressions, triaging results, and tracking bugs.
• Familiarity with automation scripts and verification flows.
• Good written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical/problem-solving ability.

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field. Coursework in VLSI design or VLSI concepts is expected. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
