VLSI Engineer II / Signal Integrity Engineer

Role Summary

Design, simulate, and validate VLSI circuits and signal integrity for server and compute hardware as part of HPE's VLSI engineering team. The role focuses on producing reliable prototypes and production-ready designs while collaborating with internal and external development partners.

This position is primarily onsite at an HPE office in Sunnyvale, CA.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Typically requires 2+ years of experience in VLSI design, verification, or implementation.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design, simulation, verification, and collaboration across project teams:

• Design portions of computer/server architecture and related VLSI algorithms per specifications.
• Simulate, test, and validate VLSI circuits to meet quality, schedule, and cost targets.
• Collaborate with management and cross-functional teams on design status, progress, and issue resolution.
• Work with internal and outsourced development partners to deliver prototypes and production solutions.
• Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; optional items labeled where applicable.

• Must-have: Practical experience with VLSI design, digital logic, and computer architecture; ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience designing integrated circuits and developing relevant algorithms; experience with simulation and testing workflows.
• Must-have: Familiarity with hardware description languages (HDL) and electronic design automation (EDA) tools; scripting or programming experience.
• Must-have: Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Nice-to-have: Experience with FPGA tools or previous server/hyperscale hardware projects.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related technical field -- or equivalent practical experience. Coursework or formal training in VLSI design or related concepts is relevant.
