VLSI Engineer I (Graduate)

Role Summary

Design, simulate, verify and test VLSI circuits and portions of computer/server architecture as a member of an engineering team. Contribute to RTL/logic design, verification activities, and help transition prototypes toward production.

Position is hybrid with an expected average of two days per week in an HPE office (Sunnyvale, CA).

Experience Level

Entry-level - 0–2 years of experience in VLSI design, verification, or implementation.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include design, simulation, verification and collaboration across internal and external partners.

• Design portions of VLSI/processor architecture and related algorithms to meet provided specifications.
• Develop and simulate RTL and testbenches; participate in design verification activities.
• Test and validate VLSI circuits; analyze results and iterate designs toward prototype or production readiness.
• Collaborate with project team members and outsourced development partners to deliver cost-effective, reliable solutions.
• Communicate design status, progress, and issues to management and stakeholders.
• Ensure designs meet quality, schedule, and cost targets for prototype or production solutions.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and abilities; education-specific items are summarized under Education Requirements below.

• 0–2 years relevant experience in VLSI design, verification, or implementation.
• Understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, VLSI principles, digital logic, and computer architecture.
• Experience with programming or scripting and familiarity with hardware description languages and EDA/FPGA tools.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Nice-to-have: exposure to design-for-manufacturing/layout, verification methodologies, and prototype fabrication processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical field. Coursework in VLSI design or VLSI concepts is expected. Equivalent practical experience will be considered.
