Job Title

VLSI Design Verification Internship

Role Summary

Intern on the HPE Slingshot verification team working on switch or NIC ASIC verification for future Slingshot generations. The role is hybrid with an average requirement of two days per week onsite in Chippewa Falls, WI. You will develop SystemVerilog/UVM testbenches, participate in design and debug discussions, and help improve verification flows using scripting and AI-assisted tools.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students (Bachelor's or Master's) or early-career candidates with academic or project experience in ASIC/VLSI or digital design.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Develop SystemVerilog and UVM testbench components (models, monitors, scoreboards, checkers).
  • Write constrained-random tests and develop functional coverage to identify verification gaps.
  • Debug regression failures, identify and log logic bugs, and help drive fixes.
  • Collaborate directly with ASIC designers and architects on verification and debug.
  • Use scripting, automation, and AI-assisted tools to improve verification productivity.

Requirements

Must-have skills and attributes:

  • Experience with object-oriented programming.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to ask questions, explain reasoning, and participate in technical discussions.

Preferred / nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Verilog, SystemVerilog, or VHDL.
  • Experience with Python, Perl, Tcl, or other scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with Linux development environments.
  • Academic, research, or personal projects involving digital hardware or ASIC/VLSI design.
  • Experience working on distributed teams and with agentic AI coding tools or AI-assisted workflows (preferred).

Education Requirements

Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Coursework in digital design and computer architecture and academic or project experience in digital hardware/ASIC verification are expected for internship candidates.
