Role Summary

The Video Codec Design Engineer will join the SoC design team at Qualcomm. This role involves architecting and developing advanced video encoder and decoder hardware for semiconductor products, focusing on performance and power efficiency.

Experience Level

Mid-Level. Candidates should have either a Master's degree in related fields and at least 1 year of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience.

Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities include:

  • Architect and design hardware blocks for video encoding and decoding.
  • Translate video standard requirements into efficient micro architectures.
  • Build modeling frameworks for performance and accuracy estimations.
  • Analyze codec performance with systems and architecture teams.
  • Collaborate with verification teams to define test plans.
  • Integrate codec IP into SoC subsystems.
  • Work with physical design teams to meet performance targets.
  • Support post-silicon bring up and validation.

Requirements

Must have the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of video compression algorithms.
  • Experience in RTL design and micro architecture.
  • Proficiency in C/C++/Python/SystemC.
  • Strong grasp of SoC design concepts.
  • Experience collaborating with verification and firmware teams.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with modern video coding standards (HEVC, VVC, AV1).
  • Familiarity with scripting languages.
  • Experience in FPGA flow.

Education Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field required, or a Master's/PhD with less experience.
