Validation / Verification Staff Engineer

Role Summary

Staff engineer on the Design Automation team responsible for developing software and automation to accelerate ASIC design and verification workflows. Work spans architecture, implementation, and integration of tools used by R&D and circuit design teams.

The role involves cross-functional collaboration with designers and senior technical experts to deliver scalable, production-quality automation and toolchain components.

Experience Level

Responsibilities

Contribute technical leadership across software and automation projects; typical responsibilities include:

• Apply Agile software engineering practices to design and deliver automation for ASIC flows.
• Plan, execute, and oversee technical projects for design automation tools and frameworks.
• Define software and ASIC design approaches; produce detailed design specifications and technical investigations.
• Integrate and deploy tools to accelerate design, verification, and IP integration across projects.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and network with internal/external experts to adopt best practices.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

Key technical skills and experience required or strongly preferred.

• Must-have: Extensive programming experience in Python, Perl, and TCL for automation development.
• Must-have: Advanced proficiency with UNIX/Linux environments and workflow optimization.
• Must-have: Hands-on experience with Custom Compiler/Virtuoso, circuit/layout automation tools, and version control systems such as Git and Perforce.
• Must-have: Familiarity with test-driven development, unit testing, and functional testing methodologies.
• Must-have: Proven ability to design and deliver robust automation for ASIC design and verification teams.
• Nice-to-have: Working knowledge of a major AI framework or experience applying AI to accelerate software development processes.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or MS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering is specified in the posting.
