Validation Engineer
Role Summary
Member of Qualcomm's Silicon Validation team responsible for SoC validation and integration across pre-silicon emulation and post-silicon regression and PVT testing. Collaborates with architects, designers, verification and software engineers to validate system-level software use cases and ensure silicon quality.
Experience Level
Mid-level; minimum 1β2+ years of relevant ASIC design, verification, validation, or integration experience depending on degree (see Education Requirements).
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities include:
- Design, develop, and optimize validation tests for multi-processor systems with emphasis on system-level concurrency.
- Develop and maintain bare-metal software, including low-level hardware interfaces, register and interrupt programming, and clock/power management.
- Collaborate with hardware and software teams to define and validate system-level software use cases.
- Debug and troubleshoot System-on-Chip with limited visibility using development boards and lab equipment.
- Implement and optimize algorithms for performance, power efficiency, and memory footprint.
- Support pre-silicon validation using simulation, emulation, and FPGA platforms.
- Conduct post-silicon bring-up, regression, validation, and system integration tests.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience:
- Strong understanding of operating systems concepts, caching, virtual memory, and embedded software fundamentals.
- Experience with bare-metal software development and low-level hardware interfaces.
- Proficiency in C and Assembly language.
- Exposure to scripting languages and automation (Python, Linux shell, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
- Preferred: experience applying machine learning for system validation.
- Preferred: familiarity reading and interpreting RTL (Verilog, VHDL) for silicon validation.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 2+ years of ASIC design/verification/validation/integration experience; OR Master's degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field plus 1+ year of related experience; OR PhD in Science, Engineering, or a related field.
