Job Title

Validation/Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Work in the RF Transceiver Validation Group to validate post-silicon RF transceivers (WLAN and UWB), design test-PCBs, develop automated measurement software, and define methods to measure device performance. The role focuses on identifying failure modes, debugging SoC and board-level issues, and ensuring devices meet datasheet and validation requirements.

Located in Bangalore, you will collaborate closely with radio design and product development teams to improve test coverage, reduce data-collection time, and drive fixes or mitigations for quality and reliability issues.

Experience Level

Senior β€” typically 6+ years of relevant experience (posting indicates a minimum expectation of 6 years).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include hands-on validation, test development, automation, and cross-functional debugging. Work is lab- and instrument-focused with firmware/board interaction and data analysis.

  • Design and implement validation plans to test RF transceiver performance across PVT corners; measure and verify against datasheet and VVCM limits.
  • Design PCB schematics and layouts, select materials/stackup, and coordinate with PCB vendors for prototypes and production boards.
  • Develop automated test flows and instrument control software to collect, process, and visualize measurement data.
  • Perform RF/IF/DC measurements (noise figure, gain, P1dB, IIP2/IIP3, EVM, LO leakage, offsets, PLL and clock characterization, power consumption).
  • Debug RF transceiver SoC and board-level issues: isolate root causes (biasing, register sequences, layout, process variation) and propose/drive solutions.
  • Interface and program device communications (SPI, UART, UCI) and support test modes for DC and functional measurements.
  • Analyze measurement results statistically, distinguish IC issues from setup/fixture errors, and communicate findings to design teams.

Requirements

Candidate must demonstrate strong practical expertise in RF validation, debugging, measurement, and test automation. Listed as must-have vs nice-to-have where possible.

  • Must-have: System-level understanding of RF transceivers (TX/RX chains, modulation, PER/BER/SNR, EVM), and strong skills in RF/IF/DC measurement techniques.
  • Must-have: Proven experience debugging RF transceiver SoCs and board-level issues; able to identify root causes and drive fixes.
  • Must-have: Experience developing PCB schematics/layouts and familiarity with Altium and Cadence Allegro flows.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in coding for test automation, instrument interfacing, data processing, and basic statistical analysis.
  • Must-have: Experience with device interfaces (SPI, UART, UCI) and test-mode control for measurements.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with RF calibration routines (AGC, PDET, gain/offset/IQ calibration), low-power management, and PLL/clock system characterization.
  • Nice-to-have: Prior work on WLAN or UWB transceivers, high-speed ADC/DAC measurement experience, or prior patent contributions.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, time-management, and stakeholder-collaboration skills.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field (posting specifies a bachelor's degree). No alternative-equivalent-education language was provided.
