Job Title

Validation/Characterization Engineer

Role Summary

Lead validation of 400V GaN power stages and low-voltage synchronous rectifiers in TI's HVDC datacenter product line. Own test-plan definition, hardware and automation development, data collection, analysis, and cross-functional debug to ensure devices meet datasheet and VVCM specifications.

This is a product-facing validation role collaborating with design, systems, and applications teams to translate validation findings into product improvements.

Experience Level

Mid-level - requires 3+ years of semiconductor characterization or validation experience.

Responsibilities

Accountable for the full validation lifecycle, from planning through sign-off, including hardware design, automation, measurement, analysis, and documentation.

  • Define and drive comprehensive validation test plans and schedules covering datasheet and VVCM specifications.
  • Design and build validation PCBs (Cadence Allegro X) that meet high‑voltage, signal integrity, and high‑current requirements.
  • Develop reusable automated test sequences using NI TestStand, LabVIEW, and Python; integrate with NI PXI and lab instruments.
  • Execute characterization tests across devices and conditions; collect and validate data against pass/fail criteria.
  • Generate datasheet-quality plots and apply statistical analysis (distributions, Cpk, capability) to set limits.
  • Investigate unexpected behavior using structured design-of-experiments to identify root cause and drive resolution.
  • Lead cross-functional reviews of validation hardware, results, and debug findings; maintain clear documentation and concise validation summaries.

Requirements

Must-have skills and experience.

  • 3+ years semiconductor industry experience in characterization or validation.
  • Proficiency with lab instrumentation: oscilloscopes, SMUs, DMMs, signal generators, power supplies, and NI PXI systems.
  • Experience developing test automation using Python, NI TestStand, and LabVIEW.
  • Hands-on PCB design experience with Cadence Allegro X and understanding of power-electronics layout fundamentals for GaN FETs.
  • Experience working with high-voltage power circuits and high-current lab setups.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git) and validation compliance tracking tools.
  • Ability to produce datasheet-quality plots and apply statistical methods for limit validation.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience testing GaN power stages and synchronous rectifiers (COSS, double-pulse, SOA, IDSAT).
  • Experience with Spotfire or equivalent data visualization tools.
  • Strong hands-on lab skills (soldering, board bring-up) and demonstrated systematic debugging capability.

Education Requirements

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field is required (posting specifies Master's Degree). No alternate equivalent-experience language was provided in the source.
