Job Title

Thermal Engineer

Role Summary

Support the development and optimization of thermal management solutions for Lumilens optical interconnect products used in data center and AI infrastructure, including pluggable, near-packaged, and co-packaged optics.

Work with senior engineers and system architects to design, analyze, and validate thermal solutions that ensure reliability and performance in high-density optoelectronic systems.

Experience Level

Mid-level. No explicit years of experience specified; role supports senior engineers and is suitable for candidates with practical thermal engineering experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist thermal design for pluggable, near-packaged, and co-packaged optics used in data center switching, compute, and interconnect equipment.
  • Support development of air-cooled and liquid-cooled solutions such as heatsinks, thermal bridges, cold plates, coolant interfaces, and platform-level heat rejection paths.
  • Contribute to thermal analysis of interactions among ASICs, DSPs, optical engines, lasers, packages, and mechanical structures in dense deployments.
  • Collaborate with system architects and senior engineers to define thermal requirements at rack, chassis, and module levels under air and liquid cooling.
  • Apply working knowledge of liquid-cooling technologies including cold plates, manifolded loops, coolant distribution, and thermal interfaces.
  • Evaluate tradeoffs between air and liquid cooling for power-dense electronics and optoelectronic assemblies.
  • Develop familiarity with thermal challenges unique to near-packaged and co-packaged optics, including proximity to hot ASICs, optical temperature sensitivity, thermal isolation, and serviceability constraints.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications:

  • Must-have: Practical experience in thermal engineering for electronics or optoelectronic systems and familiarity with air and liquid cooling concepts used in data centers.
  • Must-have: Ability to perform thermal analysis, evaluate system-level tradeoffs, and collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with pluggable, near-packaged, or co-packaged optics.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with CFD/thermal simulation tools and with testing/validation of thermal solutions.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with rack- and chassis-level thermal design for data center equipment.

Education Requirements

Not specified.
