Testsite Engineer, Quantum
GlobalFoundriesJob Title
Testsite Engineer, Quantum
Role Summary
Design, develop, and use in-house semiconductor test chips, testsites, and test structures to characterize emerging technologies, produce electrical measurement data, and accelerate technology and customer design enablement.
Work within cross-functional teams (technology development, design enablement, product, test, manufacturing) to translate characterization needs into silicon implementations and iterate designs based on measured results.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Specific years of experience are aligned to GLOBALFOUNDRIES career level and scoping guidelines; role expects relevant hands-on experience in semiconductor test-chip or device characterization work.
Responsibilities
The role focuses on testsite and test-chip architecture, silicon measurement, data analysis, and cross-functional communication.
- Design and develop in-house test chips, testsites, and test structures to characterize semiconductor technologies.
- Define chip- and device-level structures that enable electrical measurement and technology characterization.
- Translate characterization needs into testsite requirements and silicon implementations with cross-functional teams.
- Perform layout review and design-to-mask readiness activities, including applicable design-rule and verification checks.
- Plan and execute electrical characterization and testing of fabricated test chips to quantify device, interconnect, circuit, and technology behavior.
- Analyze silicon data, identify trends and root causes, and recommend design, model, testsite, or process optimizations.
- Iterate testsite and chip designs based on measured silicon results to improve measurement capability and learning efficiency.
- Document testsite architecture, measurement results, and technical conclusions; communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and collaborate on other projects as needed.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and experience required to perform the role.
- Relevant experience in semiconductor IC or test-chip design, technology development, device characterization, or product engineering.
- Working knowledge of semiconductor devices and integrated-circuit design or layout.
- Practical experience with electrical characterization and interpretation of silicon measurement data.
- Experience with design and verification flows such as schematic capture, layout, DRC/LVS, extraction, simulation, or design-to-mask release processes.
- Ability to analyze technical data, identify root causes and trends, and translate results into actionable improvements.
- Fluent written and verbal English communication.
Nice-to-have / preferred:
- Experience designing semiconductor test chips, process-control or characterization structures, or technology-development testsites.
- Familiarity with industry-standard EDA environments and data-analysis tools for IC design, verification, characterization, and silicon debug.
- Understanding of CMOS process technology, device physics, parasitics, process variation, reliability, and design-technology interaction.
- Experience collaborating across design, process integration, characterization, modeling, PDK, test, or manufacturing organizations.
- Project management, planning, and strong written/verbal communication skills.
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Microelectronics, or a related technical field. Preferred: Master’s degree in the same fields. (Education expectations may be aligned to GLOBALFOUNDRIES career-level guidelines.)
