Job Title

Testsite Engineer

Role Summary

The Testsite Engineer designs, develops, and uses in-house semiconductor test chips and structures to characterize technologies and produce electrical data that enable technology and customer design enablement. The role collaborates with technology development, design enablement, test, and manufacturing teams to translate measurement needs into silicon implementations and recommendations.

Experience Level

Level - Mid-Career. Years of experience are aligned with the applicable GF career level; no specific minimum number of years is stated.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include designing testsites and executing electrical characterization to inform technology and design decisions.

  • Design and develop in-house test chips, testsites, and test structures for technology characterization.
  • Define chip- and device-level structures to enable electrical measurement and development learning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate characterization needs into testsite requirements and silicon designs.
  • Perform layout review and design-to-mask readiness, including DRC/LVS, extraction, and verification activities.
  • Plan and execute electrical testing of fabricated test chips; collect and analyze silicon measurement data.
  • Identify trends and root causes from measurement data and recommend changes to technology, models, design rules, or testsite designs.
  • Iterate testsite and chip designs based on measured results to improve measurement capability and technology maturity.
  • Document testsite architecture, measurement results, and technical conclusions; present findings to stakeholders.
  • Support Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and participate in other projects as needed.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and experience; preferred or advanced items are noted.

  • Experience in semiconductor IC or test-chip design, device characterization, technology development, or product engineering.
  • Working knowledge of semiconductor devices, integrated-circuit design or layout, electrical characterization, and interpretation of silicon measurement data.
  • Experience with design and verification flows: schematic capture, layout, DRC/LVS, extraction, simulation, and design-to-mask release processes.
  • Ability to analyze technical data, identify root causes and trends, and translate results into actionable design or technology improvements.
  • Understanding of CMOS process technology, device physics, parasitics, process variation, reliability, and design-technology interaction.
  • Experience working across design, process integration, characterization, modeling, PDK, test, or manufacturing organizations.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard EDA environments and data-analysis tools for IC design, verification, characterization, and silicon debug (preferred).
  • Project management skills, strong planning and organizational skills, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Fluency in English, written and verbal.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Applied Physics, Microelectronics, or a related technical field is required. A Master’s degree or PhD in the same fields is preferred. Education is aligned with GF career-level and scoping guidelines.
