Test Maintenance Engineer

Role Summary

Own setup, qualification, and ongoing maintenance of test equipment for 800G and 1.6T optical transceiver production. Ensure testers are qualified, reliable, and available for high-volume manufacturing through preventive maintenance, calibration, GR&R, and SPC.

Work with contract manufacturers, equipment suppliers, process engineering, and quality to bring new testers online, maximize uptime, and maintain measurement accuracy.

Experience Level

Mid-level. The posting requests an experienced engineer but does not specify years of experience; relevant hands-on experience in optical transceiver test and equipment maintenance is expected.

Responsibilities

Primary duties on the production test floor and in support of new product introduction.

• Install, bring-up, calibrate, and qualify optical transceiver test systems; correlate measurements to golden units/reference standards.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to maximize tester uptime and minimize unplanned downtime.
• Plan and execute GR&R studies to validate measurement system accuracy and repeatability across testers and sites.
• Implement and monitor SPC on tester performance and test data to detect drift and out-of-control conditions.
• Troubleshoot and repair tester hardware, fixtures, and optical/electrical instrumentation; lead root-cause analysis for tester failures and false rejects.
• Track and report tester uptime, MTBF/MTTR, and equipment health; drive continuous improvement to meet availability and throughput targets.
• Manage spare parts, calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance plans for high-volume manufacturing.
• Support NPI, tester capacity expansion, and test program changes in collaboration with process and product engineering.
• Document and control tester and test program changes per QMS requirements; coordinate buy-off, upgrades, and field issue resolution with suppliers.
• Prepare equipment and test performance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and operational experience; nice-to-have items listed separately.

• Must-have: Direct hands-on experience with optical testing and test equipment (BERT/error detectors, optical power meters, module/TOSA/ROSA test stations, environmental chambers) and maintenance in a production environment.
• Must-have: Experience conducting GR&R studies and applying SPC to measurement systems.
• Must-have: Strong troubleshooting skills for tester hardware, fixtures, instrumentation, and automation; experience driving MTBF/MTTR and uptime improvements.
• Must-have: Familiarity with quality management systems and change-control processes relevant to test equipment.
• Must-have: Data query and analysis skills using statistical tools and techniques; ability to produce equipment performance reports.
• Must-have: Good English communication skills for cross-functional and international collaboration; international travel required.
• Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience specifically with 800G and 1.6T optical transceiver test setups.
• Nice-to-have: Experience supporting NPI, supplier buy-off, and tester capacity expansion across multiple sites.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in optical transceiver test and equipment maintenance.
