Test Engineer, Motor Drives
Texas InstrumentsJob Title
Test Engineer, Motor Drives
Role Summary
Responsible for developing and executing characterization and production tests for brushless DC motor drive ICs used in automotive and industrial applications. The role combines hands-on lab testing, test hardware design, and ATE test program development to ensure product quality and manufacturability.
The team focuses on mixed-signal test development, yield improvement, and test-time reduction to support scalable production of devices including those using new power technologies like GaN.
Experience Level
Entry-level - typically around 2 years of relevant experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include lab work, test-program and hardware development, and supporting production test activities.
- Develop characterization and production test programs and associated test hardware for mixed-signal ICs.
- Perform lab testing, device characterization, debugging, and validation of test flows (probe and final test).
- Use ATE platforms and simulators to create, validate, and optimize test programs.
- Analyze test data to identify yield issues and drive test-time reduction and yield improvement activities.
- Operate and maintain lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, source-measure units, and programmable loads.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, product engineering, manufacturing) to transition tests into volume production and support offshore manufacturing test offload.
Requirements
Essential technical skills and experience required for the role, followed by preferred skills.
- Must-have: ~2 years of relevant experience in test engineering for mixed-signal/analog ICs.
- Must-have: Practical ATE experience (Teradyne Eagle preferred) or equivalent analog ATE (iFlex, LTX, VLCT, V93k).
- Must-have: Experience developing characterization and production test programs and test hardware.
- Must-have: Strong technical knowledge of electronic devices, analog circuits, and analog test techniques.
- Must-have: Data analysis experience using tools for STDF-based data (Spotfire, dataPower, or equivalent).
- Must-have: Familiarity with lab measurement equipment and product engineering activities (yield improvement, test-time reduction).
- Nice-to-have: Experience with mixed-signal tests on TI roadmap testers and test program/hardware offload to offshore manufacturing.
- Nice-to-have: Proficiency in programming/scripting (C++, Python, C#); LabVIEW and TestStand experience.
- Nice-to-have: Revision control experience (Subversion, Git) and strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Degree Level: Bachelor's Degree as listed in posting).
