Test Engineer
Role Summary
Work within KLA Global Operations at the Newport (Celtic Lakes) manufacturing site to integrate, test and validate electromechanical semiconductor equipment and modules to ensure they meet specifications and customer requirements.
Support production and occasional product development activities across SPTS single-wafer product lines, working in manufacturing and R&D clean-room environments.
Experience Level
Mid-level. Prior hands-on experience testing or maintaining electromechanical products in a manufacturing or shop-floor environment is expected.
Responsibilities
Deliver installation, test, fault diagnosis and quality control of semiconductor equipment and record results to support throughput and customer requirements.
- Install modular semiconductor equipment and fully integrated systems.
- Test live equipment to specifications (3-phase, single-phase, pneumatic and fluid power).
- Perform electrical and mechanical fault finding down to component level using schematics.
- Carry out cosmetic and functional quality control inspections.
- Recommend improvements to procedures and methods.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve complex issues and meet deadlines.
- Record test data using the Shop Floor Online software suite.
- Occasionally support product groups in new product development and demonstrations.
Requirements
Must-have technical skills and work behaviours, plus desirable additional experience.
- Previous experience as a Test Engineer or in a similar role with electromechanical products (must-have).
- Practical electrical background with excellent analytical and fault-finding skills; able to use electrical and mechanical schematics to diagnose and rectify faults (must-have).
- Experience in a manufacturing or shop-floor environment; ability to work to timescales and production deadlines (must-have).
- Computer literate and able to record test data in production software (must-have).
- Strong communication, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; ability to work on own initiative and in a team (must-have).
- Willingness to work the specified shift pattern: Monday–Friday alternating 06:00–14:00 (week 1) and 14:00–22:00 (week 2); shift premiums apply (must-have).
- Clean-room experience (nice-to-have).
- Prior experience in the semiconductor industry and some mechanical/maintenance experience (nice-to-have).
Education Requirements
Minimum HNC or HND in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or an equivalent qualification or equivalent practical experience.
