Job Title

Test Development Engineer

Role Summary

Develop automated test solutions and supporting hardware to validate and release mixed-signal sensor and power ICs for wafer probe and final-package manufacturing. Work with senior test engineers, IC designers, product engineering, and manufacturing to bring up first silicon and deploy production-ready test programs and loadboards.

Experience Level

Mid-level. Guidance: 0–5 years of academic, internship, co-op, or industry experience in electronics testing, hardware lab bring-up, or semiconductor environments.

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include test program development, hardware checkout, and production release support.

  • Write, debug, and maintain modular C/C++ test programs on Automated Test Equipment (ATE) to evaluate analog and mixed-signal ICs.
  • Assist in design, schematic capture, and checkout of custom test hardware (DIBs/loadboards, probe interface boards, probe cards, sockets).
  • Participate in first-silicon bring-up and gather correlation data to validate bench measurements versus ATE across temperatures.
  • Perform statistical data analysis (JMP, Python, Excel) to evaluate Gage R&R, parametric distributions, yield issues, and support test-time reduction.
  • Collaborate with IC Design, Product Engineering, Quality, and manufacturing to release automotive-grade test solutions.
  • Use bench instrumentation (oscilloscopes, AWGs, DMMs, power supplies) and thermal systems to debug hardware and software test routines.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills, experience, and legal/work eligibility.

  • 0–5 years of academic, internship, co-op, or industry experience in electronics testing, hardware lab bring-up, or semiconductor environments.
  • Foundational knowledge of C/C++ (object-oriented programming) and/or Python for test execution, scripting, and data collection.
  • Practical understanding of analog and mixed-signal circuits and hands-on proficiency with lab test equipment (oscilloscopes, power supplies, multimeters).
  • Basic exposure to schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, OrCAD, KiCad, or similar).
  • Strong analytical problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Eligible applicants must reside in one of Allegro's office states: New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Texas, or Michigan.

Nice-to-have:

  • Hands-on exposure to semiconductor ATE platforms (Teradyne/Eagle ETS, Advantest, Cohu).
  • Familiarity with wafer probers or automated IC handlers.
  • Exposure to semiconductor data formats (STDF) and statistical process control (SPC) concepts.
  • Coursework or project experience in power electronics, sensor interfaces, semiconductor physics, or Design for Testability (DFT).

Education Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field (as stated in the posting).
