Technology Development Senior/Staff/Principal Process Development Engineer

Role Summary

Join Micron's DRAM Technology Development Process Development Team in Hiroshima to develop and optimize unit process technologies for DRAM and HBM products. The role works with process integration, device and design engineers, equipment partners, and materials suppliers to deliver cost-competitive, high-performance process solutions.

Experience Level

Senior-level (Senior / Staff / Principal). The posting requires a minimum of 3 years of semiconductor industry experience.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and optimize process recipes for R&D and manufacturing environments.
  • Define process technology roadmaps and supplier strategies to meet technology and cost targets.
  • Analyze structural, materials, and electrical characterization data to drive process decisions.
  • Collaborate with device, process-integration, and design teams and external partners to solve complex technical challenges.
  • Drive innovations to improve device performance, yield, reliability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Promote efficiency and capability improvements through use of data analysis and AI tools.
  • Provide technical recommendations to senior leadership on strategy and development direction.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff and contribute to organizational capability growth.
  • Maintain high integrity, ownership, and professional communication in cross-functional work.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications (education moved to Education Requirements below).

  • Must-have: Minimum 3 years of semiconductor industry experience.
  • Must-have: Advanced knowledge of semiconductor process development, device physics, and CMOS technology.
  • Must-have: Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with materials characterization and surface analysis methods.
  • Must-have: Strong collaboration, mentoring ability, and clear communication skills.
  • Nice-to-have: Hands-on experience in one or more process areas such as CVD/ALD/PVD, epitaxial growth, gate stack/dielectrics, advanced patterning and dry etch, wet cleaning/surface treatment, ion implantation/thermal processing, metallization/interconnects, CMP, or advanced materials integration.
  • Nice-to-have: Experience in DRAM, HBM, or other advanced memory development and advanced CMOS technology development.
  • Nice-to-have: Process development or process-integration experience in logic, memory, or foundry environments; experience in R&D and/or high-volume manufacturing.
  • Nice-to-have: Strong English communication skills.

Education Requirements

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Semiconductor Device Technology, or a related field; or equivalent industry experience.
