Technology Architecture Engineering Intern (Summer 2027)

Role Summary

Work with the Technology Architecture and Competitiveness Structural Analysis (TAC_SA) team to perform reverse engineering, design compaction, and technology-analysis tasks that inform technology competitiveness and design migration decisions.

Collaborate with design, tear-down, and laboratory teams to produce technical reports, improve analysis workflows, and support data-driven assessments.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship (student internship).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include:

• Conduct reverse engineering analyses and structured technical investigations of semiconductor technologies; coordinate sample preparation, data collection, and analysis with tear-down and laboratory teams.
• Organize and interpret structural, layout, and technology findings; document methods, assumptions, and results; prepare clear technical reports and presentations.
• Support design teams using design-migration and layout-analysis tools to evaluate technology options and identify opportunities for compaction and optimization.
• Develop or improve scripts and repeatable workflows to increase efficiency, consistency, and traceability of analysis and design-migration activities; apply Python and AI-enabled techniques where appropriate.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering partners to resolve data or methodology gaps, report status and risks, and recommend next steps.
• Perform work in a safe and responsible manner and comply with Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements.

Requirements

Must-have and preferred qualifications.

• Must-have: English fluency (written and verbal).
• Must-have: Ability to work at least 40 hours per week during the internship.

Nice-to-have:

• Prior related internship or co-op experience and demonstrated leadership in projects or competitions.
• Interest in applying AI tools and emerging technologies to improve workflows and decision-making.
• Project management, planning, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding of semiconductor device operation, basic circuit design, and processing technologies.
• Familiarity with EDA/layout tools such as Cadence Virtuoso, KLayout, or Calibre; knowledge of design rules and statistical analysis methods.
• Programming experience in Python or another language; experience with data visualization and technical report development.
• Interest or experience in reverse engineering, physical layout analysis, or design migration workflows.

Education Requirements

Must be an active undergraduate student (at least a sophomore at time of application) and actively pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field through an accredited program during the internship. Minimum overall GPA requirement: 3.0 and in good academic standing.
