Role Summary
Senior technical specialist in power electronics providing application leadership and field support for Microchip's High-Power Solutions (HPS) business in India. The role focuses on helping customers design, validate, and adopt high-voltage/high-power semiconductor solutions (SiC, IGBT, power modules, gate drivers) across strategic markets.
The position is customer-facing and technical, supporting design wins, qualifying opportunities, resolving system-level issues, and translating field insight to internal teams.
Experience Level
Senior — minimum 5 years of relevant experience in applications engineering, power-electronics design, or field applications engineering.
Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership, customer engagement, and system-level application support to enable adoption of Microchip high-power products.
- Act as regional technical authority for customer designs using SiC MOSFETs, IGBTs, power modules, and gate drivers.
- Analyze power-conversion architectures; recommend device selection, gate-drive approaches, protection, layout, and system optimizations.
- Troubleshoot performance, reliability, thermal, EMI, switching-loss, and integration issues from concept to production release.
- Lead customer technical discussions, design reviews, demonstrations, and evaluation/qualification activities.
- Develop technical content: presentations, training, reference designs, application notes, and customer documentation.
- Collaborate with sales, business development, product marketing, and applications engineering to qualify opportunities and support design-win activity.
- Mentor field and applications engineers and support knowledge transfer across regional teams.
- Represent HPS in customer workshops, conferences, and industry events; provide market and competitive insight.
Requirements
Core technical and professional qualifications required to perform the role.
Must-have:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in applications engineering, field applications, power-electronics design, or system architecture.
- Proven hands-on experience with high-voltage/high-power semiconductor technologies: SiC, IGBTs, power modules, and gate drivers.
- Expertise in power-conversion systems: topology selection, gate-drive design, protection, thermal design, layout, and system optimization.
- Experience supporting customer design cycles from architecture review through evaluation, validation, qualification, and production release.
- Proficiency with circuit- and system-level simulation tools (SPICE, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or equivalents).
- Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills for technical and cross-functional audiences.
- Ability to engage customers, influence technical and business decisions, and work independently while collaborating with internal teams.
- Willingness to travel within India (0–25%).
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with high-power lab testing (double-pulse tests), thermal characterization, EMI mitigation, and gate-drive optimization.
- Background in industrial drives, grid-tied converters, renewable energy, energy storage, AI/datacenter power, or semiconductor capital equipment.
- Prior field applications engineering, technical marketing, or business-development experience supporting design wins.
- Familiarity with Indian customer requirements, industry standards, and application trends.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline required. Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a closely related field is desirable.
