Technical Staff Engineer - Hardware
Role Summary
Design and deliver advanced network timing hardware (PTP grandmasters, NTP servers) across analog and digital domains. Own architecture, schematic design, PCB bring-up, validation, documentation, and sustaining support for products developed by the Frequency and Time Systems team.
Work cross-functionally with hardware, software, test, manufacturing and marketing teams through the full product lifecycle. No travel required.
Experience Level
Senior-level - requires 12+ years of hands-on circuit design experience.
Responsibilities
Key responsibilities for this hands-on hardware engineering role:
- Define product features, requirements, and system-level tradeoffs with cross-functional teams.
- Develop analog and digital circuit designs and produce schematics using CAD tools.
- Plan system architecture and select components for hardware implementations.
- Collaborate with PCB layout engineers on board layout, signal integrity, and manufacturability.
- Lead board bring-up, driver support, validation, release, and sustaining activities.
- Create detailed hardware design documentation and test plans.
- Enter and maintain design data in the Agile PLM system.
- Support software and digital engineers during integration and validation of board-level functions.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience (concise):
- Extensive hands-on analog and digital circuit design experience, including DDR memories, FPGAs, microprocessors, and MCUs.
- Strong knowledge of digital systems and computer architecture.
- Hands-on use of lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, GNSS simulators, and related test gear.
- Experience with Altium and/or HyperLynx or similar CAD tools.
- Experience with high-speed PCB transmission-line structures, signal integrity practices, and related constraints.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability; high attention to detail and follow-through.
- Strong written and verbal documentation skills and ability to work across teams.
- Ability to drive hardware development from concept through product release and sustaining support.
Education Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering/Computer Science is required; Master's degree preferred.
