Technical Lead Engineer - Power Validation & Characterization
Meta PlatformsJob Title
Technical Lead Engineer - Power Validation & Characterization
Role Summary
Lead end-to-end validation and characterization for Meta custom silicon in the power domain, spanning pre-silicon emulation through post-silicon bring-up and PVT characterization. Work with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and data center teams to ensure measurement rigor, scalable lab automation, and production transfer.
Experience Level
Senior - requires extensive industry experience; minimum 12+ years of relevant experience per listing.
Responsibilities
You will define and execute validation strategy, build scalable test and automation infrastructure, and lead cross-functional debugging and production transitions.
- Own validation and characterization strategy for assigned silicon programs from emulation to production.
- Define measurement plans, benchmarking methodology, instrumentation, corner coverage (P/V/T), and pass/fail criteria.
- Establish and document measurement best practices for accuracy and correlation across bench, emulation, and production data.
- Validate domain feature sets (power or networking) pre- and post-silicon on emulation and real silicon.
- Review schematics, power delivery networks, high-speed interfaces, and board/platform configurations; provide early design/debug inputs.
- Develop and review automation and analysis code to scale characterization from single benches to many lab units; build data pipelines for characterization data.
- Lead cross-stack debugging (silicon, firmware, driver, board, thermal, fabric) and drive root-cause resolution with partners and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship for validation engineers and improve standards for data quality and rigor.
- Partner with manufacturing, production, and data center teams to convert characterization results into production screens and fleet health monitoring.
Requirements
Must-have skills and experience are listed first; preferred items are noted separately.
- Must-have: 12+ years of industry experience in validation/characterization of complex ASICs, SoCs, NICs, or high-speed interfaces.
- Must-have: Proven experience with PVT (Process/Voltage/Temperature) characterization and corner analysis.
- Must-have: Ability to read and reason about schematics and either power delivery networks or high-speed interface implementations.
- Must-have: Proficiency in Python for test development, lab automation, and data analysis.
- Must-have: Hands-on lab experience with domain-relevant instrumentation (SMUs, scopes, current probes, thermal chambers, etc.) and experience operating multi-unit lab setups.
- Must-have: Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional debug and collaborate with design, software, hardware, ODMs, test houses, and silicon vendors.
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience building large-scale lab automation frameworks and characterization data pipelines.
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: Familiarity with on-die telemetry, ring oscillators, eFuse binning, adaptive voltage scaling, and high-TDP / liquid-cooled platforms.
- Preferred / Nice-to-have: Experience taking custom ASICs from first silicon through high-volume production and direct experience with data center hardware development.
Education Requirements
Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Preferred: advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The posting explicitly allows equivalent practical experience in place of a degree.
