Technical Engineering Intern - AI Research and Development Internship

Role Summary

Internship on an engineering team exploring applications of AI and agentic systems to semiconductor digital design and verification workflows. The role focuses on research, prototype development, and practical evaluation of AI solutions that improve engineering productivity.

Experience Level

Entry-level internship for students currently enrolled in a technical degree program. Full-time, six-month placement (Dec 2026–May 2027).

Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities involve research, prototype development, and evaluation of AI-driven tools for design and verification.

• Research and prototype AI-driven automation and agent solutions for selected digital design and verification tasks.
• Design and implement AI prototypes that analyze results, identify root causes, and recommend potential solutions.
• Learn semiconductor design and verification fundamentals (including RTL) and identify opportunities for AI assistance.
• Create AI agents and automation using suitable frameworks and tools to assist engineers in code analysis and problem detection.
• Collaborate with experienced engineers to develop practical, proof-of-concept solutions.
• Develop simple evaluation methods, document results, and communicate findings to the team.

Requirements

Must-have technical skills and aptitudes, plus preferred skills listed separately.

Must-have:

• Basic knowledge of AI and large language models and how they apply to practical problems.
• Proficient Python programming; able to write clean, efficient code.
• Basic understanding of digital design and verification concepts and workflows.
• Strong problem-solving ability and clear technical communication/documentation skills.
• Curiosity and eagerness to learn new technologies in AI and semiconductor design.

Nice-to-have:

• Familiarity with Python-based AI tools, LLM APIs, or AI agent frameworks.
• Experience with machine learning frameworks and generative AI applications.
• Knowledge of RTL design and verification methodologies and EDA tools.
• Participation in AI research projects, hackathons, or personal projects demonstrating AI/agent development.

Education Requirements

Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
